China: A growing Organic Market with high Potential!
Different sources estimate that total organic food turnover will reach about 400 mill. US $. In previous years, growth in the organic industry was export driven. This is about to change as the domestic organic food and natural products market has started to develop.
The number of organic food items on the Chinese market is increasing as is the number of retailers offering organic food (both conventional retailers and specialized organic shops). In 2005 the Chinese organic food regulations were implemented. They provide the correct foundation for domestic market development with two-digit growth rates expected in the coming years.
